Review: Devil May Cry 3
Originally released on February 17, 2005 and as part of the HD Collection alongside Devil May Cry 1 and Devil May Cry 2 on March 22, 2012. Devil May Cry 3 is a prequel to the first Devil May Cry. The game takes place a decade before and stars Dante and Vergil as well as a mysterious man named Arkham. The game begins with Arkham delivering an invitation to Dante from Vergil in the form of a demon attack. After the attack the tower of Temen-ni-gru rises in the middle of the city. Dante takes this as a challenge from his twin and proceeds to fight his way to the top of the tower. As you make yuour way up the tower, yuoui fight many demons who will join you as devil arms once defeated. As well as the mysterious Jester, an individual who seems to be less than fully sane. You will also meet Mary who is after her father Arkham, as he is responsible for her mother’s death. It turns out that Vergil plans to take Dante’s half of their mother’s amulet to connect both the human and demon worlds. Once you reach the top the brothers fight it out with Vergil coming out on top. Once Dante reaches the basement after waking up him and Vergil who was unable to activate the tower fight it out once more. This time though the fight is interrupted by Jester and Mary. It turns out that Jester is in fact Arkham who plans to steal the Sword of Sparda, Dante and Vergil’s father, to absorb his power and rule over a demon infested Earth. Dante and Vergil battle and defeat Arkham after he is overwhelmed by Sparda’s power. The brothers than fight for the right to wield Force Edge. Dante defeats Vergil this time and escapes back to Earth with Vergil choosing to stay in Hell. After meeting back up with Mary, Dante decides to name his shop “Devil May Cry”. This game builds on the previous games in a tremendous way and includes many quality of life changes. Capcom did a great job with this game and while I started the series with this particular title due to the timeline I had a lot of fun playing it and would recommend everyone play this game as well.
