Review: Final Fantasy VII Remake
Released on April 10, 2020 for the PlayStation 4 Final Fantasy VII Remake is a Remake of the first part of the Final Fantasy VII storyline. The game has you play as Mercenary Cloud Strife. Cloud is a former SOLDIER turned mercenary who is currently helping eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE stop Mega Corporation Shinra from draining the planet’s life essence. Throughout the story you meet various characters who are a part of AVALANCHE. These members are Barrett Wallace, Jessie Raspberry, Tifa Lockhart, Biggs and Wedge. As you help AVALANCHE you start being plagued by visions of a man named Sephiroth. During a mission you are separated from both Barrett and Tifa, as a result of this separation you formally meet Aerith Gainsborough. Aerith proceeds to hire you as a bodyguard and you are forced into battle with Shinra Turk Reno to protect her. After walking Aerith home, and battling Shinra Turk Rude. Cloud will attempt and ultimately fail to sneak out of Aerith’s house at night. Aerith shows Cloud how to return to sector 7 and AVALANCHE. After meeting Tifa, you and Aerith will then head to Wall Market in order to save Tifa from the conniving Don Corneo. In Wall Market, Corneo informs you that Shinra plans to drop the Sector 7 plate in order to create a tragedy. During the evacuation of Secotor 7 Aerith is captured by Shinra. The group will then go on a mission to save Aerith, the mission to save Aerith from Shinra ends up with you not only battling manifestations of Fate, but also Sephiroth. After the battle with Sephiroth, the group all leave Midgar to stop Sephiroth’s plans. The Remake ends here for now, it is estimated this is only the first roughly 15 percent of the original game. The game’s combat can be either Real-Time Hack and Slash Style, or Classic Turn-Based Combat. This allows for those who prefer different styles of combat to play the way they want. As someone who prefers hack and slash over turn based this was a great addition to the remake. This is a game that almost anyone can enjoy if they enjoy rpg games.
