Review: Mega Man Battle Network 5
Released on December 9th, 2004 for the Gameboy Advance and July 21, 2005 for the Nintendo DS. MegaMan Battle Network 5 is the sequel to Battle Network 4 and the fifth game in the series overall. The story starts with Lan and his friends heading to SciLabs HQ to hear what Lan’s father has been working on recently. Unfortunately the announcement is crashed by some uninvited guests. These guests turn out to be agents from Nebula, the evil organization from the previous game.  Nebula proceed to take over the Net with an army of viruses and NetNavis that have been “enhanced” by Dark Chips. Lan then meets with either Chaud or Baryl and is then recruited to either Team ProtoMan or Team Colonel. Lan will then help recruit the rest of the team. Team ProtoMan consists of MagnetMan, GyroMan, NapalmMan, SearchMan, and Meddy. Team Colonel consists of KnightMan, ShadowMan, TomahawkMan, NumberMan, and ToadMan. Through great teamwork the Net is saved and returned to normal, but this was all a diversion as Nebula is actually after “The Hikari Report” which is a research project by Lan’s Grandfather. Lan and MegaMan discover VisionBursts hidden all over the Net are hiding the Hikari Report. Unfortunately Dr. Regal finds it first.  It turns out that the research project was SoulNet. SoulNet was meant to connect the minds and hearts of humans and NetNavis. This project was undertaken by both Dr. Hikari and Dr Wily. Regal now plans to unleash Nebula Grey to corrupt humans and NetNavis with pure hatred and darkness. Lan’s team proceeds to storm the Nebula base and MegaMan manages to seal Nebula Grey. This causes the room to self destruct. Yuichiro, Lan and MegaMan’s father, stays behind to have a chat with Regal. Afterwards Yuichiro calls everyone back to SciLabs to meet a new Dr Regal, who has had his memories wiped and is now peaceful. This game is the first of the series to have a version on the Nintendo DS, and also the last in the Battle Network series to have a DS version. This game is everything that 4 should have been storywise and is the primary reason I recommend playing 4 as it gives an introduction to the characters in 5. Battle Network 5 is a game I highly recommend playing as it’s very enjoyable top play even now.
